Our clinical and teaching staff practice a variety of treatment modalities that you are free to explore and apply in your counseling.
We reach far beyond our walls. From our partnership with the Watts Labor Community Action Committee to our School-Based Counseling Program, we provide opportunities for you to work with individuals and communities across the LA region.
We offer extensive counseling services in multiple areas — Family Therapy, Trauma and Resiliency, Gang Awareness, Domestic Violence, and more. You can experience them all as you explore options for your future counseling practice.
Your fellow trainees, our counselors, your supervisors, all of the caregivers at SCCC are volunteers. This allows us to provide low-cost counseling without insurance or government funding. At SCCC you are free to focus on caring for your clients — no session limits or excessive paperwork will stand in your way.
This comprehensive program provides counselors who are working towards their LMFT, LPCC or LCSW licenses the clinical skills and supervised hours necessary for licensure in the the state of California. Each counselor commits to maintain a caseload of at least 8 clients with whom they meet weekly over the course of their two year commitment. Many counselors volunteer longer than two years and complete advanced training
Each January and July we offer our 6-month Community Counselor Course (CCC), which is geared toward social service agency workers and non-profit employees who often find themselves in a position of counseling. Anyone and everyone interested in exploring the world of counseling and learning basic counseling skills is welcome to enroll. Those seeking to become a Paraprofessional Counselor at SCCC (a counselor who is not counting hours towards state licensure) first begin with this training course. A certificate of completion is awarded at CCC graduation.
