Center ‘drives’: giving back for 13 years!

For some, the holiday season can be the most stressful time of year.  Each year since 2003,Feast Drive Pic 2015 the counselors, staff, Board, supervisors and alumni of the Southern California Counseling Center,  have worked together to provide two holiday drives for families who are part of SCCC Outreach Services – a Thanksgiving Feast Drive and a Holiday Gift Drive.

For the past two years we have not only provided for families at our mid-city location but also have included Watts Los Angeles. Our partners at the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) provided the names of 10 families that needed assistance.

Annually, we begin on the first day of November, gathering the food for the feasts and delivering to the families.  It all starts again December 1st as we collect toys and other gift items for the children.

The front desk Client Coordinator, Jacqueline Martinez-Cerna, and organizer Tamara Satterwhite take this program very seriously and work hard to coordinate and organize each holiday drive.

We are very aware this does not begin to impact the daily struggle these families endure, and yet, the smile on their faces when we thank them for allowing us to be of service speaks volumes.  It is our belief that it is important to give back to the communities we serve, and we encourage even more involvement in the Center community.

Many thanks to those who contributed food, gifts, hands of labor, and their time and car for delivery this year!
